Hello to all
In the reeling from the trauma of the last week and before then, we offer some resources to advance our learning. Thanks to Isabelle Barbour for the research.
1. Othering and Belonging Institute newsletter and linked to podcast (below). The podcast is really good. The acoustics are a little rough in the beginning but they even out.
2. Reimagining Policing in the Wake of Continued Police Violence- with President Obama-- I watched this live on ABC last night and it made me feel hopeful. Some amazing panelists including President Obama. https://www.obama.org/anguish-and-action/
3.On ending police violence https://humanimpact.org/about-us/key-initiatives/health-instead-of-punishment/
4. Addressing Law Enforcement Violence as a Public Health Issue--https://apha.org/policies-and-advocacy/public-health-policy-statements/policy-database/2019/01/29/law-enforcement-violence
This policy was passed by the American Public Health Association in 2018. It's a reminder that violence has been understood by public health professionals as a solvable problem for many years. (It's actually how I started my career in public health!). The fact that police violence claims so many lives is a testament to a lack of political will.
